Leo Donofrio's Greatest Gamble....

....the Defense Attorney who is defending human beings against the assaults of Satan* donofrios-biggest-gamble1 I say there's nothing wrong with tireless self promotion as long as there is some ingenuity and talent to back it up. Such is the case with Leo C. Donofrio, most recently in the blogger news (not much in the main stream news anyway) with his lawsuits before the SCOTUS regarding the eligibility of Barack H. Obama. I had heard of his skill at poker. He took top prizes at two "hold 'em" tournaments earlier this year. Donofrio's biggest gamble however is his attempt to remove ineligible candidates (Obama, McCain, Calero) from the presidential ballot for failing to meet the "natural born" test. His first suit "Donofrio v. Wells" was conferenced by the Justices on Dec 5 but they declined to order oral arguments. The next test comes tomorrow (Dec 15) in the Wrotnoski v. Bysiewicz when the Court will announce if it will hear that case. Today, on his blog, Natural Born Citizen, we learn that Donofrio is also an artist ,"damn it to hell"!
From Olberman at MSNBC and right on down the line with very few exceptions, I’ve been labeled a tin foil hat sporting freak show loony toon… and for what? I questioned whether a man - who admits his birth status was governed by the laws of Great Britain - is a “natural born Citizen” under our Constitution. Well, I don’t really give a rats booty product what the media says. It’s all lies and spin anyway. But what does bother me is that they’ve insulted my artistic abilities. I am an artist, damn it to hell!
He goes on to spin a conspiracy yarn he calls "Obama Has a Twin". He has also written a song with that title which he performs on his MySpace page where he is called The Paraclete. One reference to Paraclete on Wikipedia defines the term as "as the Defense Attorney who is defending human beings against the assaults of Satan (the Prosecuting Attorney, the Accuser, the fomenter of violence)."* He also plays in a band called Schizo Fun Addict. Donofrio is an excellent writer and researcher and somewhat of a sleuth. His article titled The Mystery of Southern Pines Golf Club is an interesting read, even if you don't care about golf. I think I will come down on the side of those, and there are many, who praise his legal talent and his gutsiness in taking on a potentially huge constitutional issue. One can only wish him well in that regard, self promoter or not.

The Radical Barack Obama....

Quote for today: George Soros to Judy Woodruff of Bloomberg Television
"I think Obama has the charisma and the vision to radically reorient America in the world,"
The paragraphs below are from the beginning of a long article by Cliff Kincaid on the Accuracy in Media blog concerning Barack Obama's longstanding relationships with various America hating individuals including Jeremiah Wright, William Ayers, Bernadine Dohrn, and Frank Marshall Davis.
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama tried to deflect a question about his relationship with terrorist Bill Ayers by saying that he “engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago when I was 8-years-old” and that he was now a professor and a neighbor. The real issue is whether Obama shares Ayers’ communist views. Obama admitted to exchanging ideas with Ayers on an irregular basis but did not say what those ideas were. But we know that Ayers, rather than just being a 1960s “radical,” was a member of a Marxist-Leninist communist group. The Weather Underground, or Weathermen, wasn’t just home-grown and domestic in nature, although it had evolved from the so-called Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), which laid siege to college campuses and tried to take over administration buildings. Their openly proclaimed goal was world communism and they had links to hostile foreign powers. “We’re revolutionary communists,” Ayers himself said in 1969. The FBI said that the Weather Underground had more contacts abroad than the Moscow-controlled Communist Party USA.
Which brings up another so far unmentionable aspect of Obama’s background?the role of his childhood mentor, Communist Party member Frank Marshall Davis. This is the hard-core Soviet apologist who filled Obama’s head full of anti-American thoughts at a tender age. About Ayers, Obama said that he’s not somebody he exchanges ideas with “on a regular basis.” What ideas? And does that mean he communicates with him on an occasional basis? We need more questions and answers.....
Read the rest of the article here. Also this from AP 2/14/08:
MANAGUA, Nicaragua: President Daniel Ortega, who led the 1979 soviet backed revolution in Nicaragua, says Barack Obama's presidential bid is a "revolutionary" phenomenon in the United States. "It's not to say that there is already a revolution under way in the U.S. ... but yes, they are laying the foundations for a revolutionary change," the Sandinista leader said Wednesday night as he accepted an honorary doctorate from an engineering university.

Edmund Hillary Clinton

The announcement today of the death of Sir Edmund Hillary (b. 1919), New Zealand mountaineer and c0-conqueror of Everest with Tenzing Norgay, reminds of another classic Clinton fib; that Mrs. Clinton was named after Sir Edmund. Mrs. Clinton, on a visit to Nepal in 1995, encountered Edmund Hillary and later told reporters that she was named after the famed climber. This story was discounted much later (2006) by a Clinton spokesperson saying; "....she was not named after Sir Edmund after all....It was a sweet family story her mother shared to inspire greatness in her daughter, to great results I might add.."

The history of this claim is throughly discussed at Snopes.

Hot It's Not (Exposing the Gore Fraud)

Even the MSM is starting to notice the hype and alarmism regarding climate change. To update our previous post (see below) we now find this interesting op-ed by Jeff Jacoby in today's Boston Globe (1/6/08).

...."2007 to be 'warmest on record,' " BBC News reported on Jan. 4, 2007. Citing experts in the British government's Meteorological Office, the story announced that "the world is likely to experience the warmest year on record in 2007," surpassing the all-time high reached in 1998.....But a funny thing happened on the way to the planetary hot flash: Much of the planet grew bitterly cold.....In South America, for example, the start of winter last year was one of the coldest ever observed..... In Buenos Aires, it snowed for the first time in 89 years, while in Peru the cold was so intense that hundreds of people died....University of Oklahoma geophysicist David Deming, a specialist in temperature and heat flow, notes in the Washington Times that "unexpected bitter cold swept the entire Southern Hemisphere in 2007.....Closer to home, 44.5 inches of snow fell in New Hampshire last month, breaking the previous record of 43 inches, set in 1876. And the Canadian government is forecasting the coldest winter in 15 years..... so relentlessly has the alarmist scenario been hyped, and so disdainfully have dissenting views been dismissed, that millions of people assume Gore must be right when he insists: "The debate in the scientific community is over."....But it isn't. Just last month, more than 100 scientists signed a strongly worded open letter pointing out that climate change is a well-known natural phenomenon, and that adapting to it is far more sensible than attempting to prevent it. The "Silver Lining" in Global Warming....

The "silver lining" in Global Warming, the Destruction of Conservatism in America....
Far left reporter Dave Lindorff (Wesleyan '71) writing in the Baltimore Chronicle (12/22/07) opines:

Say what you will about the looming catastrophe facing the world as the pace of global heating and polar melting accelerates. There is a silver lining.....The area that will by completely inundated by the rising ocean—and not in a century but in the lifetime of my two cats—are the American southeast, including the most populated area of Texas, almost all of Florida, most of Louisiana, and half of Alabama and Mississippi, as well as goodly portions of eastern Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.....
So what we see is that huge swaths of conservative America are set to face a biblical deluge in a few more presidential cycles.....So again, we will see the decline and depopulation of the nation’s vast midsection—noted for its consistent conservatism. Only in the northernmost area, around the Great Lakes (which will be not so great anymore), and along the Canadian border, will there still be enough rain for farming and continued large population concentrations, but those regions, like Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois, are also more liberal in their politics. (emphasis added)

This is nutty stuff folks. This is the most extreme form of climate change alarmism and clearly illustrates the underlying political agenda i.e anti-capitalism and destruction of conservatism, United Nations usurpation of our national sovereignty, and other far left nostrums. There is recent, albeit limited, evidence that Global Warming has actually ceased. Astrophysicist David Whitehouse writing in "The New Statesman" (U.K.) 12/19/07) states:

With only few days remaining in 2007, the indications are the global temperature for this year is the same as that for 2006 – there has been no warming over the 12 months.

But is this just a blip in the ever upward trend you may ask? No.

The fact is that the global temperature of 2007 is statistically the same as 2006 as well as every year since 2001. Global warming has, temporarily or permanently, ceased. Temperatures across the world are not increasing as they should according to the fundamental theory behind global warming – the greenhouse effect. Something else is happening and it is vital that we find out what or else we may spend hundreds of billions of pounds needlessly.....For the past decade the world has not warmed. Global warming has stopped. It’s not a viewpoint or a sceptic’s inaccuracy. It’s an observational fact. Clearly the world of the past 30 years is warmer than the previous decades and there is abundant evidence (in the northern hemisphere at least) that the world is responding to those elevated temperatures. But the evidence shows that global warming as such has ceased.

Dr. Whitehouse does not reject the CO2/Greenhouse Gas science. Clearly CO2 emissions are rising but CO2 comprises only an extremely tiny fraction of the earth's atmosphere. It's present concentration is roughly 390 ppm up from 315 ppm in 1960 when accurate measurements of this sort became feasible. To visualize the quantity of CO2 in our atmosphere, imagine the atmosphere as a 100 yard football gridiron. On this scale Nitrogen (78%) would occupy all of the field down to the 22 yard line; Oxygen (21%), would bring us to the 1 yard line where Argon (1%) would bring us to the final inch line of which only a small fraction of that would signify the volume of CO2! This comparison is mentioned in Michael Crichton's "State of Fear"; a similar example, using stadium spectators instead of the gridiron, itself can be found here.

An extended discussion of the CO2 problem and related matters can be found at the EcoWorld website. Here, in an interview titled "Beyond Global Warming", climate scientist Roger Pielke, Sr. throws much light on the subject. He says to blame all of the perceived changes in climate on CO2 emissions is wrong. Important factors being overlooked and/or underreported are changing patterns of land use and land cover. He says:

With respect to extreme weather, a much more important issue than how greenhouse gases are altering our climate is society's greatly increased vulnerability to extreme weather events - a direct result not of changes in weather but of increased settlement by expanding human populations into low-lying coastal regions, floodplains, and marginal arid land.

Roger Pielke Sr. is a retired professor of atmospheric science at Colorado State University, Ft. Collins, and a senior research scientist at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Since July 2005 he has written and maintained Climate Science, a blog that serves as a scientific forum for dialogue and commentary on climate issues. With William R. Cotton, he is the co-author of Human Impacts on Weather and Climate (Cambridge University Press, 2007).

A Child's Christmas in Wales....

A Child's Christmas in Wales by Dylan Thomas (1914-1953). Read it on line here and listen to the author read the story here.

One Christmas was so much like another, in those years around the sea-town corner now and out of all sound except the distant speaking of the voices I sometimes hear a moment before sleep, that I can never remember whether it snowed for six days and six nights when I was twelve or whether it snowed for twelve days and twelve nights when I was six....

A Christmas Poem....

The Oxen by Thomas Hardy

Christmas Eve, and twelve of the clock.
"Now they are all on their knees,"
An elder said as we sat in a flock
By the embers in hearthside ease.

We pictured the meek mild creatures where
They dwelt in their strawy pen,
Nor did it occur to one of us there
To doubt they were kneeling then.

So fair a fancy few would weave
In these years! Yet, I feel,
If someone said on Christmas Eve,
"Come; see the oxen kneel,

"In the lonely barton by yonder coomb
Our childhood used to know,"
I should go with him in the gloom,
Hoping it might be so. (1915)

The oxen figures are carved olive wood from a nativity set. My reading of this poem; listen here.

Hillary Waiting in the Wings....

Translation....

An interesting article appeared the other day by blogger The Capitalist League which gave several reasons why Republicans should, at this point anyway, support Mrs. Bill Clinton for the Democrat nomination.

Blues for Grim Reaper....

Citing a dearth of death the Grim Reaper has postponed purchase of new scythes and laid off hundreds of staff.

Turning good news into bad, leave it to the main stream media. A sharp drop in the numbers of Iraqi deaths due to the improved military situation there has caused concern among the nation's cemetery workers:

NAJAF, Iraq — At what's believed to be the world's largest cemetery, where Shiite Muslims aspire to be buried and millions already have been, business isn't good.

A drop in violence around Iraq has cut burials in the huge Wadi al Salam cemetery here by at least one-third in the past six months, and that's cut the pay of thousands of workers who make their living digging graves, washing corpses or selling burial shrouds.

McCain Touts Longevity Genes....

/>

Republican presidential candidate John McCain is certain that his age is no barrier to election because he has inherited longevity genes from his mother, who at 95 is active in his campaign. In the photo above she is shown at her retirement home proudly wearing her McCain badge! McCain, who is now 71 years old, if elected president would be the oldest to attain that office.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Dogged by suggestions he's too old to be president, John McCain often says he should bring his mother to campaign stops to demonstrate his good genes. On Wednesday he did.

"I am so happy to be here. I think I'm going to cry," 95-year-old Roberta McCain said as she introduced her son to about 200 seniors at a retirement community. She said three generations of McCain women are supporting his campaign.
